The Foundation Industries (metals, ceramics, glass, chemicals, paper and cement), vital to the manufacturing and construction sectors, produce 28 million tonnes of materials per year in the UK, but in doing so are by far the UK’s biggest industrial polluters.

The TransFIRe Foundation Industry Forum invites academics and those working within the Foundation Industries (FI) and their supply chains to discuss the challenges, solutions and opportunities for transformational change and how we might be able to tackle these in support of the UK’s 2050 net zero targets.

This interactive event will cover, amongst other topics:

  • an overview of the current and future research to help reduce carbon emissions in the FIs and their supply chains.
  • how to help FIs attract funding for innovation, new technologies and circular business models.
  • opportunities for industrial symbiosis, innovation and transformational change.
  • development of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the FIs.
  • monetisation of excess or waste resources.

The aim is for attendees to leave the event with a range of new contacts, potential collaborations, ideas and inspiration to implement in their own business.
