The facility will work across a range of scales, from nanoscale sensor development to multi-metre full-scale testing of large infrastructure components.
Research at NRFIS is underpinned by the academic expertise of the research groups and specialist centres of the Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC), and Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology located within the Civil Engineering Building. NRFIS is focused on the research and application of advanced sensor technologies to enable the design, construction, and maintenance of the UK's existing and future infrastructure, such that it is resilient, adaptable, and sustainable for the future.
The NRFIS facility is up and running from September 2019.
