Asim Gaba has more than 35 years of design, commercial and project management experience on major international infrastructure projects across Europe, Asia and North America. He is Arup’s Global Skills Leader in Ground Engineering and is the Leader of the multi-national design JV delivering multi-disciplinary design for the two southern sections (from Euston Station to the Chilterns) of the new high speed rail link between London and Birmingham, UK.
Asim graduated from the University of Oxford with a first class honours degree in Engineering Science; Master of Science degree in Geotechnical Engineering with distinction from Imperial College, London; and a first class honours degree in Law from the University of London. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, London; a Fellow of the Geological Society, London; a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers and the British Geotechnical Society; a RoGEP Registered Geotechnical Advisor; and a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Asim is an acknowledged expert witness in geotechnical engineering. He has chaired international conferences, delivered state of the art keynote addresses, lectures, seminars and masterclasses on underground engineering at the Institution of Civil Engineers, London; Institution of Structural Engineers, London; Hong Kong Institution of Engineers; Geotechnical Society of Singapore; Institution of Engineers Malaysia; Germany; Sweden; the UAE; Qatar; and the Netherlands. He has authored more than 30 peer reviewed publications on technical research, engineering design and construction, management, contractual and legal matters. He is lead author of CIRIA design guidance books (C580 and C760) and section editor of the ICE Manual of Geotechnical Engineering. Asim currently serves on technical, engineering, professional accreditation and legal committees and boards in the UK and internationally.
