The Cranfield Water masterclass series has been developed with a focus on the current challenges facing the water sector and is informed by Cranfield University’s latest world-class research. The classes provide insight for water sector professionals and others who wish to increase their knowledge of topical issues. Delegates will improve their understanding of both how the specific topic is of significance for the water sector and the science and research which underpins candidate solutions.
Each masterclass is delivered by an academic leader in the relevant field; an expert who is closely engaged with leading edge knowledge delivery. There are 5 events within this series:
The masterclass will present a series of innovative scenarios for energy generation from treatment processes and carbon reduction opportunities based on implementing the recovery of innovative energy vectors like hydrogen, ammonia, biomethane and synthetic fuels into the existing wastewater and biosolid asset.
The PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ in drinking water have recently been a hot topic in the news across the globe. How much of a risk do PFAS chemicals pose for drinking water supplies? Learn about the latest thinking, research and developments on PFAS in potable water production and distribution systems.
Treatment wetlands have been used worldwide for over three decades to treat water from domestic, industrial, agricultural, and runoff sources. We will quickly cover the basics of this versatile technology and then deep dive into the latest applications including upgrading septic tanks, nutrient removal, combined sewer overflows, and behaviour of emerging pollutants (PFAS, pharmaceutical and antimicrobial resistance (AMR)).
SUDS have multiple benefits for land and water managers, but this course will focus on the role that sustainable drainage can play in managing nutrient neutrality. This involves structures that use natural process that minimise the amount of nitrogen and phosphorus that enters water bodies following storm runoff.
Unlike other SUDS courses, this course focuses on nutrient neutrality specifically. It has applicability in both urban and rural areas. It will provide attendees with a broad overview of possible options and the contexts where they are best applied.
