As a country sharing only one land border, Wales is surrounded by some of the best and most popular national and international coastal regions, nature reserves and tourist destinations. With an 870-mile coastal path, numerous bays and beaches, an extensive, interlaced waterways network and communities dependent on trade and tourism, transport was and remains an intrinsic part of Wales’ development leaving distinctive marks on its shores and seas.

Transport for Wales (TfW) aspires to be Wales’ favourite way to travel, creating one network, one timetable, one ticket, and one team as its mission, helping people travel in ways that are good for the planet, good for the pocket and good for real life. TfW was set up as a not-for-profit organisation by the Welsh Government to change the way Wales travels, setting the trajectory of transformation from rail, bus and active travel.

As a named public body under the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act, TfW are driving to improve the economic, social, environmental and cultural well-being of Wales. TfW are transforming the transport network so that it becomes truly sustainable and fit for future generations as Wales continues to propel itself through innovation, sustainable development and global responsibility.

Using a series of spotlight focuses on Wales’ coastal regions through the lens of social impact, heritage to climate change and energy, this webinar will explore transport, sustainability and well-being in the context of transformation. It will also demonstrate how transport transformation both historically and today – and for the future – can influence learnings and changes in the local, national and global arenas.
