CSIC launches Smart Infrastructure Blog
06 October 2020

The Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC), has launched a new series of short, thought-provoking articles – the Smart Infrastructure Blog. CSIC, through the University of Cambridge, is an active member of UKCRIC and is hosted at The National Research Facility for Infrastructure Sensing (NRFIS) which is housed in the new Civil Engineering Building on the West Cambridge Campus. NRFIS is part of the UKCRIC portfolio of research and innovation facilities funded through the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

The informative series of blogs features the latest developments and ideas shaping our industry and society. Written by members of the CSIC team, partners and industry experts, the Smart Infrastructure Blog showcases opinions and ideas from the forefront of smart infrastructure and construction. CSIC works at a number of strategic levels across industry, policy and academia to transform infrastructure and construction through smarter information – using data from real performance and cutting-edge data analysis models to enable better decision-making for increasing efficiency and productivity, reducing carbon, improving resilience and preserving resources.

Director of CSIC Dr Jennifer Schooling OBE, a UKCRIC Champion and Thought Leader, said: “The work of CSIC is collaborative to the core and the Smart Infrastructure Blog will reflect the many ideas and developments that are currently shaping the smart infrastructure space. Our industry is recovering from the effects of the pandemic and, while the consequences have been devastating for many, the crisis brings opportunity to reset, innovate and change the way we deliver, manage and operate infrastructure and embed low carbon, low waste outcomes into projects. Working together towards these shared goals will enable society to function better and the people who depend upon the services delivered by our infrastructure to flourish.”

Working in close alignment with NRFIS and by collaborating with its 31 Partners and the wider industry, CSIC is able to accelerate the process of implementation of research outputs, delivering value to stakeholders by improving margins, reducing costs and carbon, enhancing returns, managing risk and extending the productive life of assets.
