Funding call: request for participants in a UKCRIC bid for decarbonising heating and cooling

Funding call: request for participants in a UKCRIC bid for decarbonising heating and cooling
01 July 2020

You may have seen the recent UKRI call for proposals in the area of decarbonisation of heating and cooling. We are aware of several members of UKCRIC already working in this area (including through PLEXUS) and would like to support one or more UKCRIC bids.

The call from UKRI is to fund proposals to support the goal of the decarbonisation of heating and/or cooling. Proposals must be at least 50% within the remit of EPSRC or at least 50% within the remit of NERC. Proposals are invited and encouraged to include research that spans the remit of both EPSRC and NERC, but this is not a requirement (and may not be appropriate to all topics within the heating and cooling challenge). However, proposals must be interdisciplinary in that ALL proposals must include an economic and/or social science component.

Proposals must be for a research grant.

The research proposed must clearly address decarbonising heating, decarbonising cooling or decarbonising both heating and cooling. Proposals that do not clearly address decarbonising heating, decarbonising cooling or decarbonising both heating and cooling as the main focus will be rejected as out of remit for the call.

It is expected that the funding available for this call is approximately £12 million. Proposals should be for a maximum of £1.5 million and for a minimum of £500K. Proposals should be for 36 to 48 months duration.

If you would be interested in leading or participating in a UKCRIC bid under this call, please let us know as soon as possible, and no later than 14th July. The following details would be helpful:

  • Your name
  • The subject area of the proposal
  • Whether you would like to lead or participate, or either
  • Other partners you might wish to work with (whether members of UKCRIC or not), and whether or not you have already contacted them.

We would not anticipate standing in the way of anyone who wanted to lead a bid: we would see this as an opportunity to build the strongest possible team.
