UKCRIC is pleased to announce it has renewed its membership of the Net Zero Infrastructure Industry Coalition (NZIIC), a group of government, research and industry organisations united in their mission to drive down the UK’s emissions and transform the UK’s infrastructure systems towards net-zero.

The coalition is a group of organisations with many decades’ experience delivering and operating major infrastructure in the UK and globally. The coalitions insights are underpinned by a deep understanding of technical and commercial realities as well as the challenges inherent in delivering infrastructure at scale and pace.

UKCRIC supports the coalitions view that net-zero must become an industry-wide mission that transcends traditional business relationships to become a fundamental part of the way we all work.

As a founding member of the coalition UKCRIC continues to work in partnership to harness the groups collective expertise to support the delivery, and maximise the benefits, of UK net-zero. This includes:

  • Supporting the objective of UK net-zero in its work, its projects and its business decisions
  • Transition away from activities that are incompatible with UK net-zero
  • Support the UK net-zero industry coalition through its people, resources and networks
  • Take a lead role in encouraging our industry towards UK net-zero
  • Drive down its own organisational emissions

Dr Tom Dolan, UKCRIC Senior Research Fellow (UCL) said,

"Achieving net-zero will require leadership across all levels of society, supply chains and the economy. Infrastructure systems shape modern societies. The transformation of Infrastructure into a net-zero enabling, resilience enhancing, system is an opportunity for all and an essential component of any successful net-zero strategy.

We believe that the NZIIC is an example of much needed infrastructure industry collaboration and leadership. The NZIIC has enabled UKCRIC to collaborate with the infrastructure industry organisations to support progress toward an effective response to net-zero targets, and preparations for the disrupt impacts of global warming. We are proud of the NZIIC outputs to date [NZIIC Reports], and the growing interest in NZIIC work. We are delighted to reaffirm UKCRIC commitment, by signing the new NZIIC charter. We eagerly anticipate future collaboration on the challenges identified in the NZIIC video.

About the Net Zero Infrastructure Industry Coalition

In response to the UK government’s 2050 net-zero greenhouse gas emissions commitment, NZIIC formed in 2019 to work across industry and with government on how to build a net zero economy. UKCRIC is a founding member of the Coalition, along with Mott MacDonald, Skanksa, UK Green Buildings Council, Anglian Water, Transport for London, Engie, Pinsent Masons, KPMG, Energy Systems Catapult, Carbon Trust, and Leeds City Council.
