The Edinburgh and South-East Scotland City Region comprises six local authorities which make up 26% of the Scottish population. These local authorities together with regional universities, colleges and the private sector signed a City Region Deal with the UK and Scottish Governments in August 2018, with a value of over £1.3 billion. This Deal is a mechanism for accelerating growth by pulling in government investment for innovation, skills, and infrastructure. This will deliver inclusive economic growth across the region by investing heavily in infrastructure comprising housing, innovation, transport, skills, and culture, with the aim to significantly improved performance and tackle inequality and deprivation.
The leverage created by the significant funding into related facilities at the Universities of Edinburgh and Heriot-Watt open many opportunities for multi-disciplinary collaborative research. The increasing links with Edinburgh’s informatics community, the Bayes Institute at Edinburgh, and the Alan Turing Institute, of which the University of Edinburgh is a founder member, and the construction of the National Robotarium at Heriot-Watt University has created additional entry points for collaborative data-driven research with UKCRIC members.
We are continually exploring potentials to collaborate. Learn about the plans of the Centre for Future Infrastructure at the University of Edinburgh and the newly-opened National Robotarium at Heriot-Watt University's Edinburgh campus, in partnership with the University of Edinburgh. Learn how these facilities complement the other UKCRIC Facilities.
