Biography
Dr. Margaret Akofio-Sowah is the Co-Founder and Core Team Lead of the African Transportation Research Alliance (ATRA). Prior to launching ATRA, Margaret served as President of the Ghana Transportation Professionals Forum (GTPF), another non-profit organization with the goal of promoting innovation and sustainable development in transportation infrastructure and related systems in Ghana. In these roles and in her participation in other industry organizations like the Transportation Research Board, Margaret combines her passion for advancement of the transportation industry in Africa with nearly 15 years of experience in transportation asset management, strategy consulting, and project management to drive impactful programming for underrepresented transportation professionals and students. Dr. Akofio-Sowah holds a Bachelor of Science in Engineering Science from Smith College, and both a Master of Science and Doctorate in Civil Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
